My Response:
My response to cloning is simple. I believe it should be conducted as i personally believe the pro's outweigh the con's. I do recognize the potential risk that an embryo is exposed to during a cloning experiment but i think if there is possibility for something to come of it which potentially can increase our future standard of living i don't see cloning as such a bad thing. One of my major reasons for my logic behind this is the increase genetic diversity that can arise and the possibility to bring back endangered or extinct species. Genetic Diversity within different species and subspecies is what keeps them alive, and in term keeps us alive. Another reason is the possibility to bring back an endangered species from extinction by freezing its DNA. I find this very interesting as scientist's can manipulate when the right time introduce the species back to their new environment. With the help of developed research and technology the species may be more inclined to survive in changed environment which was once a selection pressure to them.
When it comes to human cloning, I am open to idea but i think the ethics behind it may not allow further experimentation to occur. Maybe in further years when research and technology develops it may be safer to conduct cloning on humans but for right now i don't think it is the right time as mutations and abnormalities may prematurely lead to death.
The question of "Are we playing god?" by manipulating genetics is posed alot surrounding cloning and my answer is, if something can be safely done, it should be given a chance. I think cloning may have to develop to be 100% successful before being tested on humans but other than that i think the science of cloning will potentially develop and revolutionize our world and change it for the better.
